Fun with Doilies

Well I have been very busy making things for my new shop Persnickety.  Today I thought I'd make some bowls from doilies. It seemed relatively easy. I got the doilies for $1 each and the fabric stiffener at a local craft store. They only had green and yellow which works for Easter/Spring.
I took some bowl out of my cupboard and covered the bowls with plastic wrap, the site also says wax paper, but some reported that the doily stuck to the wax paper.

I then poured the stiffener into an old tupperware and saturated the doilies one at a time.  Making sure to flip it over so that I got every thread.

I then laid the doilies over the bowls to dry.  This is as far as I've gotten.  They have been drying now for a little over an hour.

This is as far as I got. i got excited and wanted to share.  I will be sure to update with how they turned out!

Persnickety

Well I've started making more products for my newest venture, Persnickety.  I would be walking about my favorite craft store and find all these other crafts and ideas pop into my head, but then didn't fit into Angela's Embellished Boxes so I created Persnickety.  I just finished up a couple pieces late last night that I still have to take pictures of.  I like being able to work on these other crafts in between working on my boxes.  What are some things you do in your spare time?

Bursting at the seems

So many fun things are happening.  I'm working on a wedding card box for a friend.  Her colors are gold and brown, so last night I cut out the tops and bottoms for her 3 tiered box.  Today I've made a lot of progress and I got her favors in so I can start working on those as well.
I started this canvas piece for St. Patty's day.  My Fiance really loves this holiday and his enthusiasm is very infectious so I started this.  I will do the word in green and then have random letters around it in yellow.
These pretty boxes will eventually say 'Kiss  Me'.  I can make these into a banner or keep them separate  to be place where ever.  I think that these will end up being super cute.
I know, Christmas??  I have another bride who saw something and wanted to know if I could make something similar for her ring bear.  Her colors are silver and blue.  I love that this is something totally different than the usual and can also be reused to hold keep sakes.  I will be putting their initials and wedding date on the snowflake.
Sweets for your sweetie anyone?  A very cute food tin, perfect for chocolate chip cookies I think or any other goodies for your sweetie.

Phew, so busy and so much fun.  I'm so honored that these woman trust me making something for their special day!  I have another bride doing a Nightmare before Christmas themed wedding and I got picked to do the wedding card box for her as well.  So exciting!  Can't wait to get started!

These are a few of my favorite things!

I love brads! I think they are some of the cutest things I've ever seen.  They can add so much to a hand sewn flower.

Hobby Lobby had them 50% off so I went a little crazy.  I put them all in an old canning jar and want to continue to add to my collection!

I also recently found out how to make flowers from rik rak and I'm in love with them!  I bought the .99 cent stuff to try out since I'm still trying to master those rosettes that are so cute but mine fall apart.  I took pictures as I went so that I can remember what to do, so I thought I'd share.
I took 2 pieces of rik rak and twisted them together.  I have a small size and have been told that the larger sizes are easier to work with.

So this is it pulled straight so you can see better how it links together.

I then put a stitch in to keep them together but don't pull to hard or it starts to gather.

You then start rolling it up.  I would sew the bottom as i rolled to keep it together.

This is it all rolled up.  I put the tail on the bottom and sewed it in there.

This is after I opened it up a bit.  Just peel back each layer one by one.

These are so cute and I can't wait to make more.  I got some felt to try to make some felt flowers. I'll post more when I make them.

Gotta start somewhere

Well as I start this new part of my journey I'm excited to share this with all of you.  I hope to use this to document my projects, inspiration and frustrations.  I'm always looking for new ways to make embellishments out of new materials and figuring out new ways to get them done!

I have a daughter who continue's to amaze me and loves to play with all my supplies, (I'm currently missing kraft masking tape which is a staple, I think she was using it as a bracelet last time i saw it.)  She helps me pick out fabric and even though she's only 16 months she has input on what I create.

Thank you so much for checking me out and wanting to be a part of my journey!
